Following
the cancelation of the Nigeria immigration aptitude tests by the president Mr.
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Four (4) applicants has gone to court acting as
representatives of all the applicants that paid One Thousand Naira N1000. 00
each for the Nigeria Immigration of which over Twenty Six (26) persons lost
their lives claiming the intended recruitment was done to defraud the poor.
The
Four people on Thursday filed a suit at before a Federal High Court sitting in
Abuja, against the Federal Government, the Minister of Interior and four others
praying the court to declare that the conduct or the execution of the
recruitment exercise was illegal, unwarranted and violated the applicants’
fundamental rights to life.
The plaintiffs, who filed
the suit at the registry of the court, brought the application under Sections
33, 34 and 44 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and the equivalent articles
of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights Act.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and
Minister of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Nigeria Immigration Service
and its Controller- General, David Shikfu Parradang are among those
joined on the suit.
Charles Ugwuonye, Friday Danlami, Chinedu Onwuka
and Samson Ojo are the applicants who through their counsel, Emeka Ugwuonye, among
other things, want the court to declare the recruitment exercise illegal and
restrain the NIS from spending the money realised from the recruitment
exercise.
They also want the court to order the respondents to pay the sum of N1 million to each applicant and N50 million to deceased applicants as general damages and also refund the recruitment money to the applicants.
They
also want the court to declare that the Nigeria Immigration 2014 recruitment
exercise was carried out in a manner that was engineered by greed and corrupt motives
and without any plan to give the applicants employment opportunities.
